The Village Board will be meeting on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. to vote on items discussed at the previous Committee of the Whole meeting. A Village Board & Planning and Zoning Commission special meeting will take place following the regular Village Board meeting for the Comprehensive Plan Kick Off. The project team will be introduced, timeline, planning process, project initiation workshop and next steps will be presented. The meeting will take place in the board room at 2200 Harnish Drive. From the Village of Algonquin: Exciting news! The Village of #Algonquin has been awarded a $600,000 grant to assist in the redevelopment of Towne Park!

“With the reconstruction of Towne Park, we are not only creating a new gathering space, but also preserving the memories and experiences that make it a special place for our community,” stated Debby Sosine, Village President. "The Village Board's unwavering leadership and commitment to fiscally responsible park improvement was essential to make the vision for Towne Park a reality."

Dixie Creek Restoration Project

This area is in the Willoughby Farms subdivision. It’s the parcel between Wynnfield Drive, White Chapel Lane and Notting Hill Road.

From the Village of Algonquin: With spring weather upon us, we are ready to begin work on the new Dixie Creek Restoration Project! The project's first stage will soon begin to restore the eroded section of Dixie Creek from Wynnfield Drive to Dixie Briggs Fromm Nature Preserve. The planned restoration will remove invasive trees and shrubs, repair the eroded streambanks, and restore the stream buffer with native plants.

Scam Alert

From the Algonquin Police Department: There is a scam going around where the callers are telling the potential victim that their Social Security Number and bank accounts are compromised and they could be accused of money laundering. The potential victims are then advised that they need to purchase vouchers in cash to clear their name and get a new social security number and bank accounts. The individuals made references to the DEA and provide fake names and badge numbers. Individuals further advise the potential victims to not tell the bank what they are doing. To further the scam, they are identifying themselves as officers with the local jurisdiction within which they reside.

Please be mindful of these scams and know that no one from APD or any police department would be calling you advising you to do this.

Liquor Commission, Village Board & COW Meetings - Tuesday, Feb. 21

The Village Board will be meeting on Tuesday, February 21 starting at 7:30 p.m. for the Liquor Commission Meeting. Bella's Woodfire Pizzeria and Pizza Pushers are requesting a liquor license. The Village Board will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Board will be voting on items discussed at the last Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting; along with previous meeting minutes and bills for payment. Three Algonquin Police Officers are being recognized by Chief of Police Associations (McHenry & Kane) for their life-saving efforts. Officer Hunter arrived at a scene where a young child wasn’t breathing. His swift actions revived the baby prior to the ambulance arriving. Officers Dykstra and Krystal arrived at a scene where an individual was bleeding out from a severe wound. Their team effort of applying pressure, creating a tourniquet and elevating the injured limb saved this person’s life, according to the emergency room doctor. The Officers’ training, skills and action under pressure saved two lives. Thank you to these officers and congratulations on being recognized for your life-saving efforts. I appreciate your skills, teamwork and dedication to the Algonquin community.

What is a Special Service Area?

Per the Federal Highway Administration: “A Special Service Area (SSA) is a fund-raising tool used by a municipality or a county to finance additional services, improvements, or facilities desired in a certain portion of its jurisdiction. What makes an SSA unique is that it only taxes those who will benefit from the improvements.”

Example: A SSA is being considered for lots in the NorthPoint Algonquin Corporate Campus. In this case, if the open space/storm water detention areas aren’t being maintained by the landowner, the Village can implement the SSA to maintain these parcels at the landowner’s expense.

Liquor Commission/Village Board Meeting - Tuesday, Feb. 7

The Village Board will be meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:20 p.m. for a Liquor Commission meeting, followed by a Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. The Village Board will be voting on resolutions regarding consulting services for the development of a Village Comprehensive Plan; engineering services for the Highland Avenue water main extension project; services from Baxter & Woodman for the Dixie Creek Reach 3 streambank restoration project; engineering services for the Stormwater Master Plan supplement; approving prior meeting minutes; and approving bills for payment, Ordinances establishing special service areas numbers 4&5 (Lots 2-6 & outlots A, B, & C of NorthPoint Algonquin Corporate Campus subdivision and Lot 2 and outlot D of the NorthPoint Corporate Campus.
