The Committee of the Whole will be meeting on Tuesday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss: annexation/rezone of 841 Oceola Drive; design guidelines for new multi-family & townhome projects located in Randall Rd. corridor; Enterprise & Special Fund budget (Water/Sewer/Pool/Cemetery/Bld. Three Algonquin Police Officers are being recognized by Chief of Police Associations (McHenry & Kane) for their life-saving efforts. Officer Hunter arrived at a scene where a young child wasn’t breathing. His swift actions revived the baby prior to the ambulance arriving. Officers Dykstra and Krystal arrived at a scene where an individual was bleeding out from a severe wound. Their team effort of applying pressure, creating a tourniquet and elevating the injured limb saved this person’s life, according to the emergency room doctor. The Officers’ training, skills and action under pressure saved two lives. Thank you to these officers and congratulations on being recognized for your life-saving efforts. I appreciate your skills, teamwork and dedication to the Algonquin community.

What is a Special Service Area?

Per the Federal Highway Administration: “A Special Service Area (SSA) is a fund-raising tool used by a municipality or a county to finance additional services, improvements, or facilities desired in a certain portion of its jurisdiction. What makes an SSA unique is that it only taxes those who will benefit from the improvements.”

Example: A SSA is being considered for lots in the NorthPoint Algonquin Corporate Campus. In this case, if the open space/storm water detention areas aren’t being maintained by the landowner, the Village can implement the SSA to maintain these parcels at the landowner’s expense.

Liquor Commission/Village Board Meeting - Tuesday, Feb. 7

The Village Board will be meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:20 p.m. for a Liquor Commission meeting, followed by a Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. The Village Board will be voting on resolutions regarding consulting services for the development of a Village Comprehensive Plan; engineering services for the Highland Avenue water main extension project; services from Baxter & Woodman for the Dixie Creek Reach 3 streambank restoration project; engineering services for the Stormwater Master Plan supplement; approving prior meeting minutes; and approving bills for payment, Ordinances establishing special service areas numbers 4&5 (Lots 2-6 & outlots A, B, & C of NorthPoint Algonquin Corporate Campus subdivision and Lot 2 and outlot D of the NorthPoint Corporate Campus. Special Committee of the Whole Meeting - Jan. 24

The Village's budget process is starting. A special Committee of the Whole Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m., 2200 Harnish Drive. There will be a presentation for the Capital Budget for 2023/2024. The agenda items include proposed Water & Sewer Improvement/Construction fund; Motor Fuel Tax & Street Improvement fund; Park Improvement fund and Natural Area & Drainage Improvement fund. 3 Village Meetings - Tuesday, Jan. 17

The Village Board will be meeting on Tuesday, January 17 starting at 7:15 p.m. for a Liquor Commission Meeting. At 7:30 p.m. the Village Board Meeting will take place followed by the Committee of the Whole at 7:45 p.m. The Village Board will be voting on the items discussed at the Jan. 10th Committee of the Whole meeting. The Committee of the Whole meeting will be discussing an agreement for the Village's Comprehensive Plan; Highland Avenue Water Main extension Phase 2; Dixie Creek Reach 3 streambank restoration project; and the Stormwater Master Plan supplement. Algonquin Recreation Dept. - New Partnership for educational workshops

These FREE seminars will run once a month, on the second Wednesday of the month, at two different times for your convenience: 1:00pm or 6:30pm at Algonquin Historic Village Hall. The first workshop will kick off next week on Wednesday, January 11th and will focus on the Basics of Estate Planning. Happy New Year! The Village Board's first meeting for the year will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd at 7:30 p.m., 2200 Harnish Drive. Congratulations Chief Walker!

Walker brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the position, having been an active member of the community throughout his 25 years of dedicated service.

Departure of Chief Bucci

From the Village of Algonquin: The Village of #Algonquin is announcing the departure of Chief John Bucci from the Algonquin Police Department. Chief Bucci has been appointed as Undersheriff of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, effective January 3, 2023.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police in Algonquin for the past eight years and am proud of the work we have accomplished together as a team," said Chief Bucci. "I am excited for this new opportunity to continue serving the community in a different capacity and am confident that the Algonquin Police Department will continue to thrive under new leadership."
