Trustee Sosine elected as Acting Village President
The #Algonquin Village Board elected Trustee Debby Sosine as Acting Village President at their meeting on Tuesday, August 4. Acting Village President Sosine will fill the remainder of late-Village President John Schmitt’s term, who passed away unexpectedly on July 25.
“I am humbled by the Village Board’s support and I am looking ahead to working together to keep Algonquin moving in the right direction” said Sosine.

Passing of Village President Schmitt
I respect and appreciate John’s commitment to public service and the many positive contributions to the Village of Algonquin and surrounding community. My condolences to his family and friends.

Prairie Trail Construction Update (from Public Works):
This week, crews continued installing the retaining walls, adding drainage and replacing the soil that was disturbed around the abutment walls. They also worked on grading the connection to the Prairie Trail.
Next week, crews will continue this work.

This week, crews installed the water main along La Fox River Drive up to Madison Street.
Next week, the contractor will begin testing and disinfecting the water main in accordance with Illinois EPA regulations. Crews also expect to make the following progress:
Begin replacing various portions of the storm water collection system along La Fox River Drive between Center and Madison streets.
Complete a new sanitary sewer along the east half of Madison Street between La Fox River Drive and S. Harrison Street.
Begin installation of the new sanitary service lateral (or pipe) to the properties along La Fox River Drive between Center and Madison streets. This work includes installing a new sanitary service lateral from the new sanitary sewer line up to the property line. At the connection point to existing service, a cleanout will be added outside the property. Cleanouts are vertical pipes running from the sanitary sewer lateral to the surface so the sewer pipe can be serviced.

Downtown Algonquin Prairie Path Update (from Public Works)
This week, crews continued working on the bridge structure that was installed last week, focusing on installing the wing walls, adding drainage and replacing (backfilling) the soil that was disturbed around the abutment walls.
Next week, crews will continue this work, in addition to continuing masonry work for the seat walls on the new pergola.

Textile Recycling/Donating Sources
If you cleaned out closets during the stay at home order and are in need of sources to donate the items, please consider the following:
11 million tons of textile items go to landfills each year. Please consider donating or recycling(stained/torn textile items) clean items:
-Local resale shop.
-Clean blankets and towels can be donated to local animal rescue organizations.
-Clean clothing; paired shoes; bedding, towels, and other household textiles, in ANY condition; as well as accessories (belts, hats, scarves); stuffed toys, and purses can be dropped off at the Kane County Recycling drop off location at the West Dundee Public Works (900 Angle Tarn, West Dundee, M-F 7am-3pm).

Prairie Path Construction Update (from Public Works):
Last week, crews placed the concrete for the bridge abutments that will hold the new pedestrian bridge.
This week, the team will deliver and install the pedestrian bridge, which will bring a new look, feel and support for bicyclists, pedestrians and all trail users. On Tuesday, crews plan to place the concrete for the wing walls. The team will then haul the pre-fabricated bridge structure up La Fox River Drive approaching the trail from the south side. A large crane will be in place to lift bridge structure into place on Wednesday, July 1. The bridge abutments will hold the new bridge higher above ground to allow vehicles to safely pass under it.

Construction Detour:
The temporary ramp will route users to La Fox River Drive onto local streets where they can safely reconnect to the Prairie Trail through Towne Park. Please utilize the free, public parking lots indicated on the map. For safety purposes, we kindly ask that you walk your bicycle while in the construction zone.
Downtown Algonquin Construction Update (from Public Works):
Last week, crews completed pavement restoration at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Main Street and have reopened the intersection.
Crews will complete the remaining water main work under Algonquin Road at the intersections of Main and Harrison streets once IDOT shifts traffic from the north to the south side of Algonquin Road for their bridge construction project.
The team also continued installing the sanitary sewer along the 400 block of La Fox River Drive.
Next week, crews will continue installing the sewer along La Fox River Drive. Residents in the immediate construction area should note that access to their driveways may be limited during the day. A member of the construction team will notify residents of driveway access restrictions in advance, either in person or with a construction notice door hanger. Additionally, residents along the east side of La Fox River Drive should know that as the sanitary sewer installation progresses past their home, residents could see a disruption of water services. If your water services will be impacted, a member of the construction team will provide 48-hour advanced notice of the disruption, either in person or with a construction notice door hanger.
